this is the few-step stystem you need
is so easy you could do it in your sleep
What’s one routine that’s more important than a getting-glam’d routine? Answer: getting UNREADY.
We have all been there. Those days that turn into night seemingly within minutes and the last thought before cocooning into the couch is rarely “I need to do my nighttime skincare routine.” When it comes to undoing the day’s makeup, there are five simple steps that make end-of-day skincare something to look forward to.
Steps 1-5, along with my morning skincare routine, have helped minimize my dry skin, unexpected breakouts, and irritable cheek redness over the past few years. I have even watched my Cage (brother, 20) use these steps and get brighter and more even-toned skin. Skincare is important for men, just as it is for women. As we get older, it’s important to create skincare systems that focus on replacing dead skin cells with new ones.
- Pre-Cleaning
- Cleaning
- Toning
- Blemish Maintenance
- Moisturizing
Coconut Oil & Obagi Makeup Removing Wipes
First, if you have eye makeup on, use a little coconut oil to remove eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara from your eyes. A pea-size amount of coconut oil is all that is needed. Before using the Obagi Makeup Removing Wipe, you should be looking racoon-ish. Follow the coconut oil with an Obagi Makeup Removing wipe all over the face to remove surface-level makeup and remaining coconut oil from around the eyes.
Tata Cleanser w/ Foreo Facial Brush
Next, pump a finger-nail size amount of Tata Cleanser and massage it into the face and neck with a little bit of warm water as a lubricant. Rub this into the face using circular motions for about twenty seconds before using the Foreo Facial Brush to deeper clean the pores. I like to keep a small, travel-size Foreo in the shower (when it’s not in my backpack for travel), and keep the larger-size brush on my sink. Rinse with warm water and lightly pat the face dry. Let air dry fully before proceeding to step three.
Tip: When in doubt about timing for these steps, think “Allie likes her 20s”–20 seconds is the sweet spot.
Phytomer Rose Toner
For Step three, mist 2-3 sprays of toner onto the face and let air dry.
Tip: Transfer the Phytomer Rose Toner from the original bottle to a spray bottle. The one I have can be found in the travel section at Walmart or Target. Yay for any reason to go to Target–but Amazon has a good one as well if you’d rather shop from the couch.
Skinceuticals Blemish Defense & Julep Reparative Facial Oil
Step four focuses on blemish maintenance and reducing fine lines and hyperpigmentation. With these two products, I have watched my rosacea disappear and pimples diminish quicker than they did before using these products.
Put 2/3 drops of the Julep Facial Oil in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together to warm the oil a bit. This will help activate the hydrating properties in the oil.
Tip: Avoid putting the facial oil on pimples and instead put the blemish defense on these areas. The goal is to hydrate the face but to dry out pimples and irritated areas.
Ponds Face Cream
The final step is to use Ponds Face Cream. I spend a lot of money on products for both morning and nighttime face routines. High-quality products are worth the investment; after all, the skin is the body’s largest organ. However, after one of my visits to the Esthetician, she recommended that I end my evening routine with a $6.00 product. I was all in and have used this product for the past two years.
Tip: The Ponds Face Creme comes in travel sizes and a larger size. I keep a travel one in my purse in case I take off my makeup at a friend’s house and the larger Ponds sits on my bathroom counter.
Clear it up!
Your skin will feel baby-soft
Your skin tone will even out
Your skin will start glowing
5 steps, a few products, glowing skin in minutes.
I have watched these steps work for my friends, family, and myself.
In fact, after a night out, my girlfriends always ask me to include them in my nighttime skincare ritual. It’s something no one forgets once seeing and feeling the benefits of these five steps.
Mama Mitchell, a mother of three who juggles career deadlines, family responsibilities, wife must-dos, and more, has committed to this simplified routine and she now uses these minutes as a check-in before the rest of her night.
I committed to spending time in the mornings + evenings, as well as buying quality products to use, around age eighteen. After seeing Valeria Lipovetsky’s Instagram profile years ago, I knew I needed to preserve and take care of my skin in my 20s so that I could maintain youthful skin like Valeria’s as I age.
Needless to say, no one forgets to do their nighttime skincare at my house.
While these products are a part of my everyday routine, I also incorporate a few products a few times a week. Click the “free download” button below to discover the other beauty products I integrate throughout the week for an elevated glow.
